Test Children for Lead & Make Homes Lead Safe

Saturday, 15 July 2006

This week is Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Week.  Last year nearly 3,300 children in Ohio were diagnosed with lead poisoning, which causes learning and behavioral problems.

Children that live in or frequent a home built before 1978 with recent or planned renovation are at risk.  Schools, homes and day care facilities built before 1950 may have deteriorated lead paint in them.  Very small amounts of lead dust can poison a child.

In conjunction with this important event, the Logan County Health District will offer Child Lead Testing on Wednesday, July 19 at its 310 South Main Street location.  Tests are $10.00 per child.  Call the Health District at 592-9040 for information on child lead testing.
